About Us – Halim&Co.
At Halim&Co., we believe jewelry is more than adornment. It is history, heritage, and identity woven into every piece. With over 20 years of expertise in antique and traditional jewelry, our passion lies in celebrating and preserving the timeless beauty of Kebaya attire and Peranakan jewelry.
About Kebaya
The Kebaya is more than just a garment. It is a symbol of cultural pride and shared heritage across Southeast Asia. In recognition of its deep cultural significance, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICS-ICH) inscribed “Kebaya: knowledge, skills, traditions and practices” on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This recognition honors the contributions of five nations. Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Who together celebrate the Kebaya as a living tradition. Worn gracefully by women for generations, the Kebaya represents unity in diversity, blending influences from the Baba-Peranakan culture and symbolizing peaceful coexistence across ethnic and cultural lines.
About Peranakan Jewelry
Peranakan jewelry is a rare and exquisite art form, passed down through generations. Handcrafted in gold and adorned with diamonds and precious stones, each piece embodies not only beauty but also the story of its wearer and the time it was created. Influenced by the artistry of the Malay Archipelago, China, Europe, Anglo-India, and Victorian England, Peranakan jewelry is celebrated for its intricate designs inspired by nature. Flowers, birds, and stars delicately engraved in gold.
This tradition flourished in southern Thailand and the Straits Settlements, where Chinese immigrants settled in the 19th century. Their marriages with local communities gave rise to the Peranakan, or Baba Nyonya, culture. An extraordinary blend of traditions. Alongside them came skilled goldsmiths from China, who laid the foundation of Peranakan jewelry-making in the region.
Today, authentic Peranakan jewelry is increasingly rare. As fashion trends evolved, many heirlooms were lost or melted down, leaving fewer treasures to carry forward this legacy. Those who inherit or collect such pieces hold not just jewelry, but a living fragment of history.
Our Passion
At Halim&Co., we are committed to keeping this rich heritage alive. Every piece we offer is carefully selected, reflecting our deep respect for the artistry, history, and cultural significance behind it. We want the world to recognize the value of Peranakan jewelry not just as precious objects, but as symbols of resilience, creativity, and cultural unity.
Through our work, we celebrate the passion, dedication, and craftsmanship of countless generations. By wearing these treasures, you are not only embracing timeless beauty , you are carrying forward a story worth remembering.
